An injection-molded plastic kit of the single-seat F-15J fighter in 1:72 scale from the Japanese manufacturer Hasegawa. It is a special release focused on the commemorative finish of the 204th Squadron of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force, following on from the series of Mystic Eagle boxes.
The F-15J is the Japanese license counterpart of the American single-seat F-15C fighter, produced in Japan for the Air Self-Defense Force. It is a twin-engine aircraft with a high-set wing of large area, twin vertical tail surfaces and side air intakes with movable ramps. The design was conceived from the start for air combat, which the high thrust-to-weight ratio and the view from the cockpit match. The Japanese machines serve with several squadrons, which traditionally prepare special commemorative finishes for their aircraft at anniversaries and exercises, and it is from this practice that this release comes as well.
The cockpit and the nose gear bay on aircraft of this category call for weight in the nose, otherwise the model will settle on its tail. Try balancing the weight dry before you glue the fuselage halves together. Sand and fill the air intakes and their ducts before you close them, because once they are glued you will no longer get at them. Spray the two-tone gray finish with an airbrush starting from the lightest shade and keep the transitions soft. Commemorative schemes tend to be printed on large continuous decals: apply them over a perfectly gloss clear coat, use a decal softener and work in parts, so that the sheet does not break across an edge.
