The 1:72 F/A-18 Camouflage Scheme 3 is a set of spray masks for a camouflage scheme on a model of the F/A-18 in 1:72 from the manufacturer J's Work. It serves to paint a finished model and is not a model itself.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of pre-cut spray masks for applying a camouflage scheme to a model of the F/A-18 in 1:72. It is not a kit and not decals: the masks are laid onto an already painted model and define the shape and the boundaries of the individual color fields, so the result is repeatable and symmetrical on both halves of the airframe. The manufacturer J's Work lists several numbered schemes for this type of aircraft in this scale; this item corresponds to scheme number 3. The number of sheets, the dimensions and the material of the masks are stated by the manufacturer on the packaging.
The F/A-18 is a twin-engine carrier multirole combat aircraft of American design that has served with naval aviation and with foreign users since the 1980s. Besides the standard low-visibility gray finishes, a number of machines wear striking multi-tone camouflages, for example with training units simulating an adversary. A scheme of that kind has crisp, precisely shaped transitions that are hard to reproduce freehand.
Let the surface underneath cure properly so that it is not pulled off when the masks are removed. Reduce the tack of the mask before use by laying it on a clean surface. Spray with an airbrush straight down and in thin coats; a heavy coat and spraying at an angle will let the paint creep under the edge. Remove the mask soon after the paint has dried, pulling it at a sharp angle rather than straight up. Small imperfections in the edges can be touched in with a brush after unmasking and the whole evened out with a thin coat of varnish.
The set contains spray masks only. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
