A plastic kit of the British military truck Stalwart Mk.2 in the FV 623 version in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer ACE. This is short-run production, which makes subjects accessible that the big manufacturers never got around to — and the massive amphibious six-wheel truck with a crane certainly belongs among them.
The Stalwart was a British highly mobile 6x6 truck of the sixties, remarkable for its ability to swim and to cross water obstacles without preparation. The FV 623 version served as the limber vehicle of artillery units: it carried ammunition on the bed and a hydraulic crane made transferring it to self-propelled guns easier directly in the field. The Mk.2 configuration brought a range of improvements over the first series. Thanks to its unmistakable angular silhouette the Stalwart is a popular subject among enthusiasts of British postwar hardware.
A short-run kit calls for more patience than the production of the big brands: clean the parts up before gluing, remove the fine films and try every step dry. A thin cement and tweezers suit the small details. Liven British green up with a lighter oversprayed coat on the upper surfaces, a dark wash in the pressings and a dusted running gear — a working machine will take marked weathering.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
