About product

Humber Armoured Car Mk.IV 1:72 (Zebrano)

A resin kit of the British Humber Mk.IV armored car in 1:72 scale, intended for experienced modelers. The set holds gray resin castings, photo-etched brass and a sheet of waterslide decals. The castings have fine surface detail that is hard to achieve in injection plastic in a small scale, but in exchange they call for a different preparation procedure from an ordinary plastic kit.

The real subject

The Humber was among the most numerous British armored cars of the Second World War. It was a four-wheeled vehicle with all-wheel drive, a closed hull and a rotating turret, used mainly for reconnaissance, liaison and securing an advance. The Mk.IV version differed from the earlier ones above all in its heavier armament in the form of an American-built anti-tank gun, which changed both the layout of the turret and the work of the crew. The cars served in North Africa, in Italy and in Western Europe, including with the Allied units of other countries.

Building and painting tips

First wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water to remove the mold release residue, otherwise the paint will not hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a fine file blade rather than nippers, as resin is brittle. Protect your airways when sanding, as resin dust must not be breathed. It is glued with cyanoacrylate, and with the gel version for the photo-etched parts. Spray the whole model with a primer and only then the base shade. Treat the chassis and the fenders with a wash and dust pigments, as on a small vehicle the weathering is the main carrier of a sense of scale.

Who the model is for

  • Experienced modelers who can work with resin and photo-etched parts
  • Collectors of British equipment in 1:72 scale
  • Builders of small dioramas and of vehicles in supporting columns
  • Anyone interested in reconnaissance armored cars of the Second World War

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted as a resin kit. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not. These are resin castings completed by photo-etched parts, which calls for a different procedure from plastic.

Cyanoacrylate glue. Cement for plastic will not bond resin.

Mold release residue tends to be left on the surface. Without washing, neither the primer nor the paint holds.

Probably not. Working with resin and photo-etched parts presupposes experience and patience.
