A plastic kit of the Soviet Il-2 ground-attack aircraft in 1:72 scale from the ARK Model brand. It is an injection-molded kit for gluing and painting, so a finished model does not come out of the box. The particular production version and the number of places in the cockpit are stated on the packaging of the kit.
The Il-2 was a Soviet single-engine ground-attack aircraft meant for attacks on ground targets from low altitude. In design terms it was set apart by its armored shell, which did not form merely added protection but was directly the load-bearing part of the forward fuselage and enclosed the engine, the radiators, the fuel and the pilot. The armament consisted of cannons and machine guns in the wing, supplemented by bombs and unguided rockets on the racks. The type arose first in a single-seat form, but practice led to a rear gunner being added. The Il-2 is among the most numerously built combat airplanes of all, and its silhouette with the deep fuselage and the cranked wing is easy to recognize.
Cut the parts off with nippers, clean up the parting lines and glue with a thin cement for plastic. Finish the cockpit before closing the fuselage up, and on two-seat versions the same goes for the gunner's position. The joints of wing and fuselage on airplanes with a cranked wing call for a dry check and usually for filler as well. Lay down a primer before painting. On Soviet ground-attack aircrafts the work is with green and brownish-gray shades, which go well with a light chipping of the edges and a faint dust effect on the underside of the fuselage. Apply the decals onto gloss varnish and even the surface out at the end with a matte varnish.
