A detail set in 1:72 scale from the Polish maker Aber. It is not a kit of a gun but an accessory for a model of the Italian gun of 90 mm caliber: a turned metal barrel will replace the plastic part, and on top of that a finely worked protective shield is included, which on the real gun is thin sheet with cutouts and stiffeners — a shape that an injection mold can only manage in a simplified form in this scale.
The Italian gun designated 90/53 had a caliber of 90 mm and a barrel 53 calibers long. It started out as an anti-aircraft gun, but thanks to its high muzzle velocity it also proved an exceptionally effective anti-tank weapon, much like the German 88 mm gun. It was deployed as a towed gun and built into self-propelled mountings on chassis and trucks. A tall carriage and a long slender barrel are its typical marks.
Cut the plastic barrel off at the cradle and clean the hole out with a drill. Glue the metal part with cyanoacrylate glue. Separate the shield with a scalpel and make the bends in a photo-etch bending tool or between steel rulers. Degrease the metal before painting and lay down a base coat for metals. Italian vehicles are painted in sand and gray-green shades — on towed guns it pays to add dust and mud to the lower part of the carriage, where it builds up naturally.
This is a detail accessory, not a complete model. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package.
