A decal sheet in 1:72 scale from the Swedish maker Maestro Models. It contains markings for the aircraft that the Swedish Air Force listed under the designation J33, that is, for the British de Havilland Venom in Swedish service. It is not a model nor a kit, but an accessory with which to carry Swedish national insignia and service lettering onto a finished model.
The Venom followed on from the older de Havilland Vampire and kept its characteristic twin-boom tail structure with a short fuselage nacelle. Sweden introduced the two-seat night fighter version with radar and with the crew seated side by side; in the Swedish designation system it received the name J33, where J stands for a fighter. The machines served in the 1950s and 1960s as the backbone of night and all-weather defense until more modern types replaced them. In its Swedish release the aircraft differs from the British original in details of equipment and above all in the national markings, which ordinary kits lack.
The Venom is a small aircraft and in 1:72 the decals are tiny, so have tweezers with smooth jaws and a soft brush ready. Coat the base with gloss clear and let it cure. The soak in warm water should last only until the film begins to release; an oversoaked decal falls apart and the adhesive is washed out of it. Settle the small numbers and lettering on a drop of water and adjust their position with a brush, not with tweezers. On the tail booms and the wing transitions use decal softener, so that the film is drawn into the engraving. Once it has dried, degrease the surface and go over it with a clear coat whose gloss matches the rest of the finish; with glossy metal surfaces take care that the clear is compatible with the base.
This is an accessory for modelers, not a model or a kit. The model, paints and clear coat are not included in the package.
