These are masking stencils, not decals and not a kit. The set defines the fields of an angular digital pattern on one particular machine marked with the blue number 08. Digital camouflage is made up of a great many small angular areas; on a transport aircraft with a large fuselage and a long wing, masking them by hand with tape is practically unrealistic, and a ready-made stencil therefore saves most of the work.

The real subject

The An-26B is the transport variant of the high-wing turboprop An-26 with a rear ramp that folds down and a cargo hold laid out for palletized loads. The aircraft is designed for operation from short and lower-quality runways, which is matched by the sturdy landing gear and the high-set engines protected from flying stones.

Working on large areas

• Divide the model into logical sections - the fuselage, the wing, the engine nacelles, the tail surfaces - and mask one at a time, not all of them at once.
• On curved surfaces press the mask down from the center toward the edges, so that no folds form for the paint to creep under.
• Spray the long fuselage in overlapping bands at the same distance from the nozzle, otherwise unevenly covered stretches will appear.
• Thin coats matter twice as much with a large number of fields; otherwise the layers add up and the edges thicken.
• Before removing the masks, check the coverage in a less conspicuous place so that paint does not come away over a large area.

For modelers who build the Ukrainian An-26B in 1:72 scale and want to spray a broken pattern accurately. Given the extent of the area this is work for several sessions, so it suits patient and more advanced builders.
