A set of pre-cut masking pieces in kabuki paper for a model of the trainer version of the MiG-25 in 1:72 scale. It is neither a kit nor a part of a model. The designation ADVANCED is above the basic level in the manufacturer's scale, so the set has a wider extent than the BASIC variant; the exact list of pieces is not stated here. Kabuki paper is thin, slightly stretchy and adheres to curved surfaces as well, while not pulling paint off or leaving adhesive behind when removed. In 1:72 scale a set like this is doubly useful, because cutting frames a few millimeters across by hand is slow and inaccurate.
The MiG-25 is a twin-engine high-speed aircraft with a high-set wing and a pair of vertical tail surfaces, structurally built mainly from welded steel because of the thermal loads at high speeds. The PU version is a trainer conversion: for the second seat it received a separate cockpit in the front fuselage, placed lower than the original cockpit, so the aircraft has a characteristically stepped nose with two separate canopies. That is what matters for masking, because there are more areas and frames to cover on the trainer version than on a single-seat machine.
Degrease the glazing and let it dry, because a mask does not hold on a greasy surface. Lift the small pieces off the sheet with the tip of a scalpel or with tweezers and lay them down from the center, only then pressing the edges into the corner of the frame. In small scales it pays to work under a magnifier. Spray perpendicularly and in thin coats, because an angled coat will blow under even a well seated mask. Apply the shade of the cockpit interior first, then the base color and finally the camouflage. Take the masks off while the paint has only set and is not fully hard.
