The photo-etched set Eduard 1:72 P-61C airbrakes replaces the plastic airbrakes of the P-61C night fighter with thin stainless steel parts. It is an accessory to a kit, not a model in its own right.

A photo-etched set from the Czech maker Eduard aimed at the airbrakes of the Northrop P-61C night fighter in 1:72 scale. This is not an aircraft kit but a narrowly aimed aftermarket accessory. Braking surfaces are exactly the kind of part where injection-molded plastic is untrue to scale: in reality they are thin perforated sheets that simply cannot be cast from a mold at a realistic thickness. Etched stainless steel solves that, because it has a thickness matching the real thing and the perforation is genuinely cut through rather than merely suggested.
The Northrop P-61 Black Widow was the first American night fighter designed directly for the role, with airborne radar and a twin-boom layout. The P-61C version received more powerful engines with turbochargers and reached higher speeds at altitude than the earlier variants. The modification of the wing with braking surfaces was connected with exactly that, because they helped to slow the heavy aircraft down when maneuvering and when closing on a target. Aircraft of this version saw only marginal combat, as they appeared at the very end of the war.
The original plastic brakes are cut away and the surface carefully sanded. Cut the etched parts off with a scalpel against a hard surface; small pieces easily spring away, so work over a tray. Make the bends in a bending tool or between steel rules. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue applied in the smallest possible amount, so that it does not run into the perforation. The set makes most sense on a model with the brakes extended. Apply a primer before painting and spray the paint in thin coats so that the fine holes do not fill up.
The set is an accessory to a plastic kit, not a model in its own right. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
