Percival Proctor Mk.III 1:72 — a Dora Wings kit

An injection-molded plastic kit of the British single-engined Percival Proctor Mk.III aircraft in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer Dora Wings. The package holds plastic sprues with the parts, a separate sprue of clear parts, photo-etched sheet for fine details, masking templates for the glazing and a decal sheet with instructions and color schemes. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.

The real subject

The Proctor was a British single-engined low-wing monoplane of mixed construction with fixed landing gear, derived from the prewar touring aircraft of the Percival company. During the Second World War it served mainly as a liaison and courier machine and as a flying classroom for training radio operators. The Mk.III version was a three-seater and concentrated on exactly that radio training; machines of this type were built in a large series and flew in civilian service after the war as well.

Building and painting tips

This is a short-run mold with fine engraving, so plan for careful cleaning up of the mating faces and for a dry test fit, especially on the fuselage halves and the canopy. Finish and paint the cockpit before closing the fuselage up, and glue the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate. It is a good idea to glue the fixed landing gear on only once the underside has been painted. Apply a gloss varnish compatible with the paint used before the decals, and once it has dried go over the whole model with a matte varnish. The masks supplied protect the glazing, so the frames will come out sharp.
