A small resin set of the Czech brand Brengun intended to complete a model of the Douglas A-4 Skyhawk in 1:72 scale. This is not a kit of the aircraft, but separate supplementary parts, specifically the RATO takeoff rocket boosters of the kind that were hung on the fuselage on the real machine. The number of pieces in the package is stated on the box of the set.
The abbreviation RATO denotes rocket-assisted takeoff. These are jettisonable rocket charges which for several tens of seconds give the aircraft extra thrust and shorten the takeoff run. They were used when taking off at a higher takeoff weight, from short strips and in a hot or high-lying environment, where a jet engine loses power. On a model it is a pronounced and easily legible feature, which immediately gives away a particular operational situation and sets the model apart from a commonly built machine.
Wash the small castings in warm water with detergent and cut the casting blocks off carefully, ideally with a cutter with a thin blade, because the delicate parts break easily. They are glued with cyanoacrylate; for more time to set them reach for the gel variant. Try the placement on the fuselage dry first and mark it lightly with a pencil, which the paint will then hide. Spray primer on and only then the paint. If you are going to deal with a color boundary, use masking tape rather than a brush, and the edge will stay sharp. It is practical to fit the hung boosters only to a finished and clear-coated model.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
