Soviet Early Red Stars Part II 1:72 is a set of self-adhesive masking stencils for spraying early Soviet red stars with no edging. The second part of the series, an accessory for painting a model.

A masking set from the Czech manufacturer Armycast for aircraft models in 1:72 scale. It holds cut self-adhesive stencils for the Soviet red star in the early pattern with no edging and is the second part of this section of the series, which it follows on from. It is neither a kit nor decals: the insignia is sprayed in paint through the mask, so it is then a direct part of the paintwork of the model.
The national star appears on an aircraft in several places and in a different size in each position — on the fuselage, on the lower surfaces of the wings and on the fin. One sheet of masks therefore does not usually cover the whole model, and for that reason the manufacturer divides the early stars into two separate sets. Before buying, check the range of sizes in the individual parts by comparing the illustration of the set with the documentation for the machine you are building, or combine the two parts.
The basis is smooth, fully cured and degreased paintwork. Lay the mask in place, run a blunt tool over the edges and apply the paint in several thin coats at right angles to the surface. If the star lies across an engraved line or across a rivet band, it helps to seal the edge of the mask first with a thin coat of clear varnish. A rich red tends to have poor covering power, so it pays to spray a lighter base underneath — otherwise heavier coats would be needed and the edge would lose its sharpness. Take the mask off with tweezers while the paint has not fully cured.
The package holds masks only. The model, paints and glue are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
