1:72 Soviet hexagonal tiles

Soviet hexagonal tiles, a scenic base from Uschi van der Rosten, 1:72 scale

A printed scenic base that faithfully imitates the Soviet hexagonal concrete slabs with which the parking areas and taxiways of military airfields were surfaced. It is not a kit and not a model: it is a finished printed base on which you stand and photograph models of aircraft or hardware in 1:72 scale. In a single step you get a convincing setting of a Soviet airfield without the labor of building the paving out of individual pieces.

Use and tips

• Back the base with a flat board (foam board, MDF, card), so that it lies smooth and does not curl.
• For photography and for a display case alike it works as an instant background under a standing model: it pulls the scene together and gives it scale.
• The look can be deepened with a light patina: a darker wash into the joints between the hexagons, light rub marks and oil stains where aircraft stood.
• Combine it with airfield accessories (drums, carts, figures of ground personnel) for a livelier diorama.

Who it is for

For modelers of aircraft and military hardware in 1:72 scale, and for collectors and photographers of models who want to create the setting of a Soviet or East European airfield under their build quickly.

This is a printed base. The models, the paints and a frame are not included in the package.
