Armycast 1:72 — a masking set for Soviet Kremlin stars with a white (yellow) edging, mid variant. Cut stencils for spraying the marking, not decals.
Responsibility details are not available.
A masking set in 1:72 scale from Armycast for spraying aircraft markings. The marking is not applied but sprayed: the film is positioned on finished paintwork, the star is laid down in paint over it and the mask is removed. The result is part of the paintwork, so no step and no glossy frame comes about on the model, which is what gives decals away on a matte area. The item is an accessory for an aircraft model, not a stand-alone kit.
The set belongs to the range of Kremlin stars that the manufacturer keeps separate from the ordinary red stars — the drawing of the two types differs, so they cannot be interchanged. The edging is given as white with the possibility of a yellowish shade; in practice the color of the edging differed according to the batch of paint and the wear of the machine. The designation for the mid period is the division used by the manufacturer, not an exact historical fact — compare the shape and the size with a photograph or a profile of the machine you are building before applying it.
The most frequent mistake is haste: the base coat has to be hard, otherwise the paint underneath comes away as the mask is removed. Degrease the area, press the film down all the way around and spray at right angles, in several thin coats. Thinned paint in three passes holds a sharp edge better than one rich coat. Do a multicolor marking in stages — the lighter edging, dry, mask over, the darker center. Take the film off shortly after the paint has dried and unify the surface at the end with a matte or satin varnish, so that the transitions are not noticeable.
This is a masking accessory, not a model. Paints, glue and a kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
