A standard wall section 1:72 — MIG Productions

A resin diorama accessory in 1:72 scale from MIG Productions. It is the basic repeating element of a modular system of buildings: a straight wall section with which a scene is extended in width. It is not a vehicle model and not a finished building, but a building part that is joined to further sections of the same line.

What the accessory is for

The standard section is the part of which the most is usually used up in a diorama. By putting several pieces one after another a continuous facade or a boundary wall arises, and by joining them at a right angle the corner of a building. By completing it with an added-height section the wall is raised, with the roof part it is finished off, and pillars divide the surface into the regular rhythm that industrial objects have. The main advantage is precisely the repeatability: a modeler puts a scene together to fit the base exactly, instead of adapting it to one fixed building.

Building and painting tips

First wash the resin parts with lukewarm water and dish soap to remove the mold release agent from the mold. Cut the sprue gates and the casting blocks off with a saw and level the mating surfaces on abrasive paper, wet and with respiratory protection. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, and on larger joints two-part epoxy is more reliable; fill the gaps and roughen them so that the transition fits into the structure of the masonry. After spraying a primer, a base shade with an airbrush works well, together with the lightening of the surfaces with a dry brush, a dark wash in the joints and finally pigments for dust, lime efflorescence and dirt at the base of the wall.
