A plastic kit of the support version of the Soviet T-26 light tank in 1:72 scale from UM. The vehicle is rendered in the version with a cylindrical turret fitted with the 76.2 mm KT-28 gun, that is, with artillery armament instead of the usual antitank gun of smaller caliber. According to the name, the package holds rubber tracks, which are pulled over the running gear without putting individual links together and so shorten the build considerably.
The T-26 was a Soviet light tank derived from the British Vickers design and in the 1930s it was one of the most numerous types in Soviet service. It was built in several configurations: first with a pair of small turrets, later with a single turret. Besides the standard antitank armament, versions with a short-barreled gun of larger caliber were also tried, meant to support infantry and to destroy fortified positions. That is exactly the configuration this model captures. The suspension stayed the same in all versions, with leaf springs and eight road wheels per side.
Finish the running gear, the wheels and the inside of the hull first and paint them before you close it up. Rubber tracks cannot be cemented with ordinary plastic glue; they need an adhesive for flexible materials or a mechanical joint, and before painting they need degreasing and a primer, otherwise the paint cracks. Leave the turret loose, it is then easier to paint the roof of the hull. Align the short gun barrel on the axis and clean up the parting line. Build the weathering step by step: base, wash in the recesses, a dry brush on the edges and a dust pigment on the running gear.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
