A plastic kit of the Zlin Z-181 trainer and sport aircraft nicknamed Basa in 1:72 scale from Kovozavody Prostejov.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Zlin Z-181 is the postwar Czechoslovak production of the two-seat Bücker Bü 181 Bestmann trainer and sport low-wing monoplane. The crew sat side by side under a long glazed canopy, the landing gear remained fixed with a tail skid at the rear, and the machine was powered by an air-cooled inline four-cylinder engine. In this country the nickname Basa became established for the aircraft. It served for basic training and for civil flying, that is, the kinds of task where simplicity and calm behavior in the air are valued.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted, the parts are made of plastic on sprues. The composition of the package, the number of parts and the range of finishes are given in the instructions enclosed with the kit.
Cut the parts off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand down the remaining sprue nub. On a small aircraft in 1:72 scale the result is decided above all by the cleanliness of the seams on the fuselage and by the exact seating of the wing: check the dihedral angle dry and from a head-on view until the glue has set. Glue the extensive canopy glazing on only after painting and finishing the interior, and mask it beforehand so that the frames stay crisp. The tail wheel and the landing gear struts are tiny, so leave them until the end of the build.
The kit will please collectors of Czechoslovak aviation subjects as well as modelers who assemble trainer and sport aircraft into a single display case. Paints, glue and tools are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
