About product

1 SYNTHETIC LINER BRUSH - Liner, Modeling Brush Size 1 (AMMO of Mig Jimenez)

Again to be safe: this is a modeling brush, not a kit. And it is not an ordinary pointed brush either - it is a liner, that is a brush with very long and thin bristles converging into a fine point. The fiber is synthetic and springy.

Why a Liner and Not an Ordinary Pointed Brush

Long fiber works as a paint reservoir. An ordinary short tip runs out after a couple of centimeters, the stroke weakens, the line frays and you have to load up again - and the join shows. A liner holds far more paint and lets you draw a long, continuous, thin line in a single stroke. The long fibers also flex as the stroke goes and even out small tremors of the hand by themselves, so the line comes out straighter.

That is its only purpose. It is not suited to surfaces, continuous coats or drybrushing - it has a minimal footprint and long fibers would simply fold under pressure. For a surface reach for a flat brush, for corners an angled one.

Use

  • Antennas, cables, stiffeners and rigging - in one stroke along the whole length.
  • Wiring, hoses and lines in interiors and engine bays.
  • Thin lettering and markings, outlining numerals and frames.
  • Long straight lines and edging, where the join of a stroke must not show.
  • Outlining engraving, panel lines and profiling detail (paneling and profiling - the use stated by the manufacturer).

Synthetic Fiber and the Chemistry of Paints

The manufacturer states the fiber is solvent resistant, usable with acrylics, enamels and oil paints. Lines in particular are often drawn with heavily thinned paint and with oil products, so the resistance of the fiber to aggressive chemistry is essential - natural hair would gradually be destroyed in thinners.

Care of the brush

  • Clean it immediately after use with the matching thinner - dried paint at the ferrule kills a liner.
  • Never store it tip down in thinner; the long fibers bend permanently and the brush will no longer draw a straight line.
  • Do not press on the bristles, and keep the stroke light.
  • Dry it flat or with the bristles upwards, and align the fibers into a point.

Who It Is For

For modelers who draw by hand - antennas and rigging on aircraft and ships, wiring, thin lettering and markings, outlining engraving on tanks and figures.

Paints, thinners and the model are not included in the package. Ventilate and protect your skin when working with thinners and varnishes.

FAQ

In the length of the bristles. A liner has very long thin fibers that take up far more paint. An ordinary short tip runs out after a couple of centimeters and the line frays - a liner carries it through in one continuous stroke.

For antennas, cables and rigging, wiring and hoses, thin lettering and markings, long straight lines and outlining engraving. The manufacturer lists it as a brush for very fine lines and for profiling detail.

No, it is unsuitable for that. It has a minimal footprint and the long fibers fold under pressure. Use a flat brush for surfaces and drybrushing and an angled one for corners and edges.

Clean it right after use with the matching thinner, never store it tip down in thinner (the fibers bend permanently), do not press on the bristles, and dry it flat or with the bristles upwards.
