A set of decals in 1:72 scale meant for a model of the Japanese Mitsubishi A5M2b carrier-based fighter in the early form. Watch out for a mix-up: despite a name that sounds like a kit, this is an accessory - the package holds decals, not plastic parts. It is a decal set that serves to let a model already built be finished in markings other than the contents of the kit box offer.
The Mitsubishi A5M was a carrier-based fighter of the Imperial Japanese Navy with fixed landing gear and an open cockpit, the predecessor of later types with retractable gear. The A5M2b version belongs to the running development stages of the range; the early and the later machines differed in, for instance, the treatment of the cockpit canopy. The Allied code name for the type was Claude. It is precisely on aircraft with fixed landing gear and a simple finish that the markings carry much of the final impression a model makes.
Always apply decals onto a gloss base - on a matte finish air is trapped beneath the carrier film and the edges give themselves away by silvering. Cut them out as close to the printing as possible and soak them briefly, only until they come free of the backing. Transfer them into place with a brush and water, not with dry tweezers. On broken-up areas use a decal softener, so that the decal settles into the engraved lines and rivets; once it is working, do not move the decal any more. Once dry, wipe off any adhesive residue with a damp cloth and go over the whole model with clear at the sheen you want, which seals the decals and evens out the surface.
The package holds only decals. The kit, paints and glue are not part of it.
