A set of photo-etched parts for detailing a plastic model of the German battleship Tirpitz in 1:350 scale. It is not a kit of the ship but an accessory to one. The extent of the photo-etch for a ship this size is such that the maker split it into two separately sold parts; this is the second of them. The two parts complement each other rather than standing in for one another, and their contents differ. The maker is Eduard, a Czech specialist in photo-etch and masks.
Ship photo-etch aims at the items where plastic is hopelessly oversized: railings and steps, ladders, platforms and gratings, radar aerials, cranes and the fine structures of the superstructures. In 1:350 scale these details make up a large share of what you see on the finished model, and their thickness decides the overall impression. Which particular parts of the hull and superstructures this part covers is given in the instructions supplied with the set. If you are planning a complete build, count on both parts.
Fit the railings only once the deck is painted, along their whole length in one piece; a join is always visible. Glue in spots with thin cyanoacrylate applied with a toothpick; on long parts a glue with a slower set helps, as it gives time to line things up. Degrease the metal before painting and spray it with a primer. Lay out the sequence so that the photo-etch is not in the way while the superstructures go together, and protect the finished model from dust, because cleaning railings with a brush is a thankless job.
The set is an accessory to a plastic model. The model itself, paints and glue are not included in the package.
