About product

7TP twin turret, late production, 1:35 (IBG Models)

An injection-molded plastic kit of the Polish 7TP light tank in 1:35 scale from the Polish brand IBG Models. The name spells out the particular form: the twin-turret version in its late production series. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted; the number of parts, the contents of the sprues and the decal schemes are given in the instructions supplied with the kit.

The real subject

The 7TP was a Polish light tank derived from the British Vickers Mk.E, that is from the so-called six-ton design, which a number of states built under license or reworked in the interwar period. The Polish version received a diesel engine, which made it one of the first series-built tanks with diesel power, and a reworked cooling system. The twin-turret variant carried machine gun armament in two independently rotating turrets, while the single-turret one carried a 37 mm gun. Late production examples differed from early ones in details of the superstructure, the turrets and the external equipment.

Building and painting tips

On a light tank of this size it is worth starting with the running gear and checking whether all the wheels seat in one plane; otherwise the discrepancy shows only once the tracks are on. Assemble the superstructure and the turrets dry and let the glue into the seams only after checking their relative positions. Leave small items such as lights, grab handles and tools until the end, so that they do not break off while the model is handled. Use a primer for painting, which evens out the surface and reveals any scratches left from sanding. Multi-color camouflage is easier with an airbrush, but it can be managed with a brush too, as long as the paint is laid on in thin coats. Build the weathering up gradually: a dark wash into the engraved lines and around the rivets first, then a dry brush on the edges and finally dust and mud shades of pigment on the lower part of the hull and on the running gear.

Who the model is for

  • Anyone interested in interwar and early-war armored vehicles in 1:35 scale.
  • Modelers who collect the derivatives of the Vickers Mk.E design.
  • Builders with basic experience of vehicle kits.
  • Diorama builders looking for a smaller vehicle with a distinct shape.

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The twin-turret variant of the 7TP carried machine gun armament in two independently rotating turrets, while the single-turret one carried a 37 mm gun.

It is an ordinary injection-molded vehicle kit of standard difficulty. A modeler with basic experience will manage it; for a very first model something simpler would be a better choice.

They are not. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted, and the chemicals and paints have to be bought as well.

The number of parts and the contents of the sprues are given in the instructions supplied with the kit.
