An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:48 scale from the Ukrainian maker ICM. The real subject is the Gotha Go 242 transport glider in its B version. In 1:48 scale it is a sizeable model with a large span, which stands out conspicuously among ordinary fighters and bombers on a shelf. The number of parts, the contents of the package and the number of decal schemes are given in the instructions supplied with the kit.
The Gotha Go 242 was an unpowered transport glider meant to be towed behind a powered aircraft. It had a twin-boom layout with a short cargo nacelle in the middle and a hinged rear end, which allowed bulky loads to be put aboard. The essential difference between the versions is in the landing gear: the A version landed on a simple jettisonable arrangement and skids, while the B version received fixed wheeled landing gear, which made repeated use from prepared strips easier. The landing gear is the quickest way to tell the two versions apart on a model; a sister kit of the A version is made as well.
The model has large flat areas and long booms - when gluing the booms and the tail surface, check the symmetry against a ruler, because misalignment tells at once in this layout. Finish the interior of the cargo bay before the nacelle is closed up and mask the transparent parts before the primer. Spray the large wing span in thin coats and grade the paint, so that the area does not look dead. Apply the decals onto a gloss clear coat and go over them with a matte one once dry. Because of the dimensions, think in advance about where you will put the model and how you will hold it while clear-coating.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
