A set of waterslide decals, 1:72 Lockheed F-80, USA and Europe, Part 2 from the maker Print Scale, for models of the first American production jet fighter in 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The second part of the decal line devoted to F-80 machines operated in the United States and in Europe. This is a sheet of waterslide decals in 1:72 scale, that is an accessory for a finished model rather than a kit. The first part of the line exists as well, so watch the part number in the name when ordering. The extent of the sheet is given on the box of the set.
The Lockheed F-80 Shooting Star was the first American jet fighter taken into service in larger numbers. It had a straight wing, a simple and dependable airframe and the supplementary tip tanks that became its hallmark. Besides combat service it served with a number of home and overseas units, and the derived two-seat trainer type grew out of it structurally. First-generation machines flew mostly in unpainted natural metal with the colored markings of their units.
Natural metal is a rewarding base for decals because it is smooth, but at the same time it is merciless to the edges of the film: every extra degree of sheen shows. Work therefore with the thinnest possible layer of gloss coat, or apply the decal directly onto a well-polished metallic finish. Lay the colored bands on the tip tanks and on the nose down in sections, because they follow strong curves; alternating a decal softener with gentle pressure from a cotton bud helps. Once dry, carefully wash the adhesive residue off with a damp cloth. It is better not to matte the model all over, so that the metal keeps its sheen.
This is a decal set, not a kit. The model, paints and varnishes are not included in the package.
