A set of figures in 1:72 scale from the maker Red Box, the second package of the numbered line of 16th century Moscow infantry. The point of a second set lies in expansion; with mass scenes one small box is not bought but several, and numbered sets on the same theme follow on from one another.
The foot elements of the Muscovite state in the 16th century. The dress built on the period clothing of Eastern Europe: a long outer coat, a belt, a soft head covering. The armament was predominantly melee weapons and polearms, the protection of the body partial. Uniform patterns of dress did not exist at this time.
At 1:72 scale a viewer tells the individual figures apart practically only by the outline: the stance, the lean of the body, the position of the weapon. That has a practical consequence: a repeating silhouette is seen in a crowd much sooner than a repeating color. The simplest way to animate a throng is therefore to mix several sets of the same line and to seat identical figures as far from one another as possible, not side by side. The second tool is orientation: a figure turned a few degrees the other way reads as a different figure. The color, on the contrary, should be kept to a narrow palette; the varied period clothing tempts one into colorfulness, but at a small scale colorfulness breaks a group up. Two or three base colors of the coats with graded lightness and one accent are enough.
The figures are supplied unpainted. Paints, glue and a base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
