A set of letters and numbers 6 mm tall in an ornamental Gothic typeface from the maker Green Stuff World. The six-millimeter size is the middle way in this line: the characters are legible at an ordinary viewing distance without a magnifier, and they still fit signs, shop signs and smaller areas of buildings. That is precisely why it is the most universal of the sizes available. It is neither a kit nor a part of a model but a means of getting text into a scene.
Six millimeters is the size at which every imprecision in the spacing already shows, so it pays off to lay the inscription out dry first and work out how much room it will take. Mark the baseline with masking tape and lay the characters to it from below, not from the upper edge. With a Gothic typeface watch the ornamental strokes; slightly tighter spacing between letters works well compared with a neutral typeface, otherwise the inscription looks torn apart. The particular procedure for fixing them follows the manufacturer's instructions on the packaging. Once it is finished, unify the inscription with the base: a dark glaze will run into the recesses around the characters, accentuate them and at the same time take away the impression of freshly stuck-on text. A final matte varnish will unify the sheen of the whole area.
For builders of dioramas who want an inscription in a scene to be genuinely legible, and for wargaming players marking buildings. A Gothic typeface suits medieval, darkly toned and fantasy scenery; for a modern technical scene the neutral STANDARD typeface from the same line suits better.
