Waterproof sandpaper 180 x 90 mm, 1200 grit

Sandpaper in 1200 grit is among the fine grades. It is not used to take material off but to make the scratches left by coarser papers disappear and to level the surface smooth. A base prepared with 1200 paper will take gloss varnish and decals without scratches showing through underneath. The paper is waterproof, which means it is used wet. The water carries away the sanding dust that would otherwise clog the grit, and besides that it keeps the plastic from heating up.

Use

• Wet the sheet and the part before work, and add a drop of dish soap if you like.
• Use light pressure, as with a fine grit the grain does the work, not force.
• Rinse the paper as you go; clogged grit stops cutting and starts to rub.
• On flat areas back the sheet with a hard block, or the edges will round off.
• When you have finished, rinse the part and let it dry thoroughly, as dried remains of sanding slurry would show under a coat of paint.

Who it is for

It suits everywhere the surface is being finished before painting: on sanded joints of fuselages and hulls, on filled spots and in preparing glossy surfaces. It also comes into its own for sanding between coats of clear and for removing dust specks from a fresh finish.

Sand in a ventilated room, and when sanding wet let the part dry properly before the next step. Store out of reach of children.
