A photo-etched mesh with small square holes

A sheet of photo-etched mesh of the brand Green Stuff World. It is not a finished part for a particular model but material: you cut from it exactly the piece you need and glue it in where a perforated surface is to be seen. The Small variant has the finest grid of the three sizes of square hole the maker offers.

When to choose the small grid

• fine grilles of ventilation openings and covers, where a coarser grid would come across as out of proportion
• small fillings of instruments, speakers and cooling openings
• models in smaller scales, where a hole has to be barely perceptible
• surfaces where the texture is meant to be apparent, but not the individual holes

How to work with it

The sheet can be cut with ordinary scissors, which is an advantage over hard photo-etched parts, because it does not have to be cut off a fret. Cut a piece out with a small overlap and adjust it after holding it against the part. It is glued with cyanoacrylate, which you should apply in the smallest amount, otherwise it will run into the holes and the mesh will be blocked. Before painting, degrease the surface and use a primer, as the paint otherwise holds badly on a smooth surface. Accentuating the mesh is helped by a dark flowing shade and a light pass with a dry brush along the edges.

Who it is for

For builders of equipment, dioramas and wargaming conversions who need perforated surfaces of their own shape. The line also includes medium and large squares and further grids, so the density can be chosen according to the scale.

The material is supplied unpainted. Paints, glue and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
