The set holds color decals of belts and straps for the GRU-7 ejection seat, as the name indicates. It is not a model, a seat or a resin casting; it is an accessory with which the seats from a 1:48 scale Tomcat kit are dressed. The seat type designation matters here: the Tomcat was built with several seat configurations during its service and the belts differ between them in layout and in the shape of the buckles.
The Tomcat has two seats in tandem, so you do every job twice, and a difference in shade or in the seating of a strap between the front and the rear seat is obvious at once when seen from above. It is worth preparing and spraying both seats at the same time, from the same batch of paint, and applying the decals in a single session. Tomcat cockpits are usually modeled open, and with the canopy lifted off you can see right down to the floor.
Sand the seat surface smooth first so that no original molded belt is left under the film. Then comes the dark base and gloss varnish over it; the gloss is crucial with these sets, because without it the film silvers and the color belt loses its saturation. Settle the decal, blot the surplus water away and dose the softener drop by drop, never with a stroke of the brush, and leave the decal undisturbed for at least 45 minutes; a relief print is easily damaged by dragging. Matte varnish comes only after it has dried. If you combine the set with a color instrument panel, leave the instrument glazing gloss and do not overspray it with matte varnish.
