The real subject

The Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress is the last and most numerously built configuration of the American four-engine heavy bomber with radial engines. It is told apart from the earlier versions above all by the powered turret under the nose, which it received as an answer to head-on fighter attacks. The machines flew in daylight formations over Europe and carried conspicuous markings by which squadrons and individual groups recognized one another within a formation. On a bomber model, therefore, the markings decide the overall impression almost as much as the paintwork itself.

What the sheet offers

A separate decal sheet in 1:72 scale, that is an accessory to a model you already have under construction or finished. Which particular machines it covers, what markings and lettering it carries and where the individual elements are placed are described in the instructions enclosed in the package. The order of work and the recommended products follow from them as well.

Application tips

• first unify the surface under the decals with gloss varnish; on a matte surface a light haze forms around the elements
• separate the elements with a sharp blade close to the artwork; a wide transparent rim shows on the model
• the method of application and a suitable softener are given in the manufacturer's instructions; stick to them
• work on one element at a time and keep checking that the markings sit at the same height on both sides
• once it is dry, give the model a final coat of varnish in the degree of gloss you want, which sinks the edges into the surface
