A large-format printed sheet 225 x 225 mm showing the surface of the Korat air base of the Royal Thai Air Force as it was in 1972. It serves as a base under a finished model in 1:144 scale. It is neither a kit nor a decal.
An airfield surface in Southeast Asia ages differently from one in Europe. Strong sunlight bleaches the paving and fades the markings, while the rainy season washes dirt into the joints and toward the edges of the area. A paved surface therefore tends to be sharply contrasting: bleached in the middle, dark around the perimeter and at the joins. The dating to a single year, as on this base, is valuable for that reason. It determines not only the look of the markings but also the degree of wear the motif captures.
Korat is a large base with a long operational history, and in 1972 it was one of the key airfields of the region. The base therefore makes sense under combat machines from the turn of the 1960s and 1970s, whether home-based or visiting. In 1:144 scale an area 225 millimeters on a side will usually take one larger combat aircraft with space around it, or two smaller machines side by side. Always try the arrangement dry before you settle the model for good.
This is a printed base for a model. The model itself, glue and paints are not part of the delivery.
