A battleship of the Iowa class is a model with an enormous deck area, a tall superstructure and a great many small features. This is exactly where the difference between plastic and fine accessory parts shows up most: railings, ladders, grated platforms and various girders look many times thicker in plastic than reality would allow. An accessory set replaces these parts and so brings the model markedly closer to the real appearance of the ship. According to the manufacturer, the accessory is cut for the Tamiya kit.
Before you start, go through the instructions and plan the order of work, because the fine parts are glued on only after the surrounding areas have been painted; otherwise you will not reach them again. Separate the parts with a cut rather than by bending, and glue them with cyanoacrylate in a genuinely small amount. Form the longer lengths of railing to the outline of the deck dry, and only then fix them. The metal pieces are degreased and sprayed with a primer before painting. Fine-tipped tweezers and good lighting will cut the work in half.
