New Ware 1:144 Tu-160 Blackjack BASIC is a set of precisely die-cut kabuki masks for masking during spraying. The BASIC level means the basic coverage of the set. The target kits are Zvezda 7002 and Academy 12621.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set holds masking parts die-cut from so-called kabuki tape, a thin Japanese paper tape with a lightly tacky layer. It is not a decal and not a construction accessory: the masks are stuck to the model before spraying, sprayed over and lifted off once the paint has dried, so a clean paint edge is left underneath. BASIC is the level of the set, and the manufacturer runs several levels for many subjects, so it is the level that decides how much surface gets masked. BASIC is the basic one of them. The cut is calculated for the Zvezda 7002 and Academy 12621 kits.
The Tupolev Tu-160, NATO code name Blackjack, is a four-engine supersonic bomber with variable-geometry wings. It ranks among the largest aircraft in its category, with a slender fuselage that blends sharply into the wing carry-through and fairly small cockpit glazing for its overall size. In 1:144 scale the model turns out large, but the cockpit windows are tiny and sharply angled, so masking them by hand with tape and a scalpel is tedious and the edge slips easily.
Lift the parts off the backing with pointed tweezers and seat them on a dry, degreased surface. Press them down with a toothpick or a blunt tip, above all around the edge, because that is where paint creeps underneath. Spray thin coats and work from the edge of the mask inward. Remove the mask shortly after the paint has dried, not weeks later when the adhesive has set. Under light shades it helps to spray the border with the underlying color first, so that any bleed stays hidden.
The masks are an accessory for masking during painting. The kit and the paints are not included in the package.
