The New Ware 1:48 F-16A/C Fighting Falcon EXHAUST NOZZLES is a partial set of kabuki tape masks for masking the exhaust nozzle of a model. A stand-alone accessory, not a kit. The masks are cut for the Hasegawa kit.

An accessory to a build, not a model. A sheet of self-adhesive masks of kabuki tape, cut to the shape of the segments of the exhaust nozzle of the F-16A/C kit from Hasegawa in 1:48 scale. The set is deliberately narrowly focused: it deals with a single but very visible place, where on the real aircraft several metal shades and color tinges from heat meet. The maker is New Ware.
The nozzle of a jet engine is not uniformly silver. The outer petals, the inner surface and the surrounding heat-resistant panels tend to have a different shade and a different degree of gloss, and the transitions between them run along regular, sharply bounded segments. Painting them convincingly with a brush is practically impossible, and masking by hand with tape around the circumference of a cone is drawn out and never comes out the same on all the petals. A pre-cut mask holds the dividing line exactly where it should be and, more importantly, holds it the same way all the way round.
Metallics have a pigment that settles to the bottom quickly, so mix the paint thoroughly right before spraying and between the individual coats as well. They look markedly better on a smooth, well-prepared surface, so spray the part with a dark base first and let it dry properly. Metallic coats are hard to overspray and do not take kindly to tape being stuck onto an already finished surface, so work from lighter shades to darker ones and take the masks off early. Tune the shades of scorching right at the very end, with weak and translucent tinges.
