A wicker seat is among the striking elements of open cockpits. In aviation practice the weave was prized for its low weight, and on a model it is noticed at once, because its pattern is fine and regular. This set offers the British form with a perforated back in two guises: a lower seat with a small leather pad and a higher one with a big pad. Which piece suits which cockpit is something to check against the reference material for your model.
Always try the seat dry first. What is decisive is the height of the seating and the rake of the back: a seat seated too high will push the figure of the pilot above the edge of the cockpit and the whole inside then looks shallow. Cut the surplus material off with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the remainder down finely. Choose a suitable glue according to the material of the parts, and cyanoacrylate glue usually holds; cement for polystyrene may not bite on these parts. Wash and degrease the parts before painting.
It pays to spray the weave with a lighter base and then to go over it with a darker glaze, which draws into the recesses and pulls the pattern of the wicker out to the surface. Paint the leather pad separately and in a different tone, otherwise it will merge with the cushion; a final fine emphasis of the edges will give the material depth. Finish the seat before you seat it in the cockpit.
The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery unless stated otherwise.
