An extensive injection-molded plastic kit of an American conventional semi-trailer tractor in 1:24 scale from the AMT brand. This is the tractor alone, that is the vehicle with its cab, engine and fifth wheel, not a complete rig with a trailer. The trailer is sold separately and can be added to the tractor in the same scale.
American long-nose tractors, which are called conventionals, are recognized by the long front hood with the engine ahead of the cab. Compared with European tractors with a flat front they offer roomy sleeper bodies, massive chrome exhausts led vertically behind the cab and richly decorated grilles. Vehicles of this class were built for long-distance haulage right across the continent, with large-displacement turbocharged diesel engines and rigs more than twenty meters long. It is exactly the large chrome accessories, the fuel tanks and the twin axles that make their models one of the most spectacular chapters of road vehicle modeling.
Tractor models are built in subassemblies: the frame with the axles and tanks, the engine, the cab and finally the hood with the grille. The frame is best painted before the parts are fitted, because afterwards you will no longer reach it. Nip the chrome parts off the sprue carefully and glue them only in spots, so that the gloss layer is not damaged. Spray the body of the cab over a filler primer in thin coats and finish it to the high gloss that long-haul tractors live off. A little fine dust on the frame and the axles works well at the end, so that the vehicle does not look like a toy from a cabinet.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
