Responsibility details are not available.
An unassembled and unpainted plastic kit in 1:48. The subject of this boxing is the naval version of the twin-engined Invader fitted out to control target drones, together with the KDA-1 drone itself. The combination of a larger aircraft and a small drone in one package makes the model a rewarding subject for a display case as well as for a small scene.
The Douglas Invader was a twin-engined attack aircraft with good range and a large internal volume, and after the Second World War it found a number of secondary roles. The US Navy operated it in the JD series and used it among other things as a carrier and control aircraft for target drones; the nickname Jig Dog came from the phonetic alphabet of the day, in which the letters J and D were read as Jig and Dog. The KDA-1 target was a small jet-powered drone carried under the wing of the mother aircraft and used after launch to train gun crews and to test armament.
Start with the cockpit and the inside of the fuselage, because once the halves are closed you cannot get at them. The glazing on the Invader is extensive, so masking tape or ready-cut masks are worth having. Check the engine nacelles and the leading edges dry and fill and sand any gaps, taking care that the engraving does not vanish under the sanding. An airbrush pays off for painting, and a glossy naval scheme calls for a smooth base and a gloss clear coat under the decals. Leave the KDA-1 target in the bright high-visibility shade that set small target drones apart, and fit it under the wing last of all so that it does not snap off while you handle the model.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
