Shape-ready masks for a model of the M109A2 self-propelled howitzer in 1:35, measured on the kit from the AFV Club brand. The masks are laid onto the surfaces that are to stay free of paint and taken off again once the spraying is done. Against cutting tape by hand they have two advantages: the shape fits the first time and comes out the same on both sides of the model, which is hard to achieve with scissors and a magnifier.
The M109 is an American 155 mm self-propelled howitzer on a tracked chassis, with a rotating turret at the rear of the hull. It is among the most widespread machines of its kind, has served in a number of armies and has been through many upgrades, so the individual patterns differ in equipment as well as in small things on the surface. The name Doher belongs to the M109 pattern in Israeli service.
Clear the surface of dust and grease before sticking a mask on, or the mask will not hold and paint will run under it. Always stick the mask on before spraying, not onto a coat that has already dried. Press the edges down carefully with a toothpick or a stick. Spray in thin coats; a heavy layer makes a step at the edge that shows once the mask comes off. Take the mask off shortly after the paint has dried, with tweezers and with an angled pull along the surface rather than straight up. The extent of the set and the placing of the individual pieces are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The masking set alone is supplied. The vehicle kit, the paints and the glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
