It is not a model of an aircraft, but an accessory that replaces the molded rear part of the wing of a plastic kit. Once glued in, the finished model gains landing configuration, that is, the form with the high-lift devices fully extended.
The Tu-154 was the most widespread Soviet jet aircraft for medium routes and, with three engines at the rear, belonged to the typical silhouette of airports of the Eastern bloc and of a number of other countries. The Tu-154M version is a later upgrade with more economical engines and modified high-lift devices. It is precisely the high-lift devices of the wing that are among the conspicuous elements on the Tu-154, because the aircraft had extensive landing flaps on account of its high landing speed. A model of a standing or landing machine therefore looks markedly poorer with the flaps retracted than the aircraft actually appeared on the runway.
Work in the order measure, cut, sand, dry test. Cut the rear edge of the wing off with a saw in thin steps and level the cut carefully, so that the new part lines up along its whole length. Glue the flaps on only after you have checked the angle of extension on both halves of the wing, as asymmetry is immediately visible on a model in a display case. Paint the inner surfaces and the mechanism before installation. Glue the plastic parts with plastic cement, for a joint with another material use cyanoacrylate glue and fill the gaps with putty. A model with extended flaps goes nicely together with open doors and extended landing gear.
