A turned barrel with a mantlet for a model of the Pz.Kpfw. IV in 1:35, manufacturer part number GB35-024.
Responsibility details are not available.
A turned barrel with a mantlet replaces the plastic parts of a kit exactly where plastic is at its weakest: a barrel made of two halves has lengthwise seams that have to be sanded down, and in the course of that the barrel is easily thinned into a cross section that is no longer round. A turned part is round along its whole length, has no seam at all and has the muzzle cleanly worked out, so the barrel reads as a tube and not as a glued shell. The mantlet of the barrel joins it to the turret and holds the barrel on the axis.
The Pz.Kpfw. IV went through a number of versions during the war and they differed in the shape of the mantlet as well as in the length and the type of gun, so the differences between the individual executions are fundamental. Before gluing, therefore, compare the shape of the mantlet and the length of the barrel with the version you are building and with the instructions for the kit. That pays off especially when you are building from a particular photograph.
Separate the plastic barrel with a fine-toothed saw and, if need be, widen the seat in the turret carefully with a drill or a round file until the part seats without pressure. Always try the seating dry first. It is glued with super glue; cement for polystyrene does not hold here. Before painting, degrease the surface and apply a thin coat of primer, otherwise the top shade does not hold on the smooth part and is rubbed off in handling.
Paints, primer and glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
