A detail set from PANZER ART for a model of the German heavy tank Pz.Kpfw. VI King Tiger in 1:35 scale. It contains a turned metal gun barrel of 88 mm caliber for the KwK43/3 gun and a resin late mantlet for the production Henschel turret. The late version of the mantlet reflects the modifications of the end of production. It is an aftermarket accessory for plastic models of the King Tiger, not a kit of the tank.
Toward the end of King Tiger production the gun mantlet in the Henschel turret received small modifications. The late version differs from the standard one in details of shape and helps place a machine in the final production batch. The long 8.8 cm KwK43 gun with its barrel of L/71 length remained unchanged; rendering it faithfully is key to the impression a model makes.
Before building, wash the resin parts in lukewarm soapy water to remove any mold release residue. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a knife and clean the surfaces up with abrasive paper, with respiratory protection. Glue resin with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). A turned metal barrel has a perfectly straight axis with no casting seams and a muzzle drilled to depth, so once painted it looks more realistic than a barrel in plastic. Before filler and paint, we recommend seating the parts dry and checking that the mantlet beds correctly into the opening in the turret of the base model. Distinguish the standard mantlet from the late one: this set reproduces the late version.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The tank model itself, glue and paints are not included in the package.
