This item is an accessory, not a kit of the vehicle. It is a casting of the engine section of the Soviet off-road car with a canvas thrown over the hood, including the folds, the sag and the fastenings. Detail of this kind can hardly be done in injection molded plastic, because the soft shapes of cloth call for undercuts. The accessory is fitted in place of the original kit part and changes the character of the model at once.
The GAZ-67 was a Soviet light off-road car of the Second World War, a simple four-wheeled vehicle with an open body that served for liaison, reconnaissance and staff duties. The open design meant that both the crew and the machinery were exposed to the weather, and covering the engine section with a canvas was therefore a common practical measure in frost and during long halts. On a model this feature makes the season clear without your having to build a whole winter scene.
Wash the casting in warm water with dish soap first, so that the paint holds. Cut the casting block off with a fine saw and level the surface on abrasive paper laid on glass or another flat board. It is glued with super glue, and on larger mating surfaces it helps to fix the part briefly and only then draw the glue in by capillary action. After the primer, give the canvas a more matte and lighter tone than the body and deepen the folds with a dark wash. Go over the edges of the cloth and the raised creases with a dry brush. A winter scene will take a light lightening of the tarpaulin on the upper faces, which suggests faded, frost-bitten cloth.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted, as a resin casting. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
