This detailing set from the manufacturer Wolfpack replaces the plastic exhaust nozzle on a model of the Su-9 interceptor, which carried the code name Fishpot, in 1:48 scale. The resin casting captures the depth of the duct and the division of the petals in one piece, so the filling of the longitudinal seam in the most exposed place on the whole model falls away.
Note: this is not a model of an aircraft. It is an accessory for a kit bought separately.
The Su-9 was a single-engine interceptor with a delta wing and a circular nose air intake with a central shock cone. It was powered by a Lyulka AL-7F engine with an afterburner. The aircraft was designed for a rapid climb to great altitude and for an attack on targets flying high and fast, and the sizing of the power plant matched that. Its exhaust nozzle is fairly long and on a model it makes up a prominent part of the tail.
First wash the casting in lukewarm soapy water, so that the mold release agent is removed. Cut the casting block off with a fine saw or a cutting disc, and do not break it away. It is bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate), as a cement for plastic models will not join resin. Sand wet and with respiratory protection, as resin dust must not be inhaled. Apply a primer before painting. The inner surfaces of the nozzle are usually sprayed in metallic shades with warmer transitions, and a thin dark wash will bring out the division. On aircraft of this generation the trailing edge tends to be clearly heat-stained and dulled.
This is an accessory to a plastic kit, not a model in its own right. The set is supplied unpainted; glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
