A resin accessory from Rise144models. It replaces the engine exhaust nozzle on an F-16 Fighting Falcon model and renders it in the closed position, that is, in the state the nozzle is in on a parked aircraft. It is not a kit of an aircraft but a single, though very visible, detail. The target kit is Revell.
The F-16 was fitted during production with engines from two different makers, and the nozzle is precisely the place where that can be told at first glance: the petals have a different shape, a different number and a different spacing. The General Electric nozzle has a characteristically divided outer shroud and its position also changes with the engine setting: at full power it opens out, and after shutdown the petals draw in to a narrow cone. It is this closed shape that belongs to an aircraft standing on the apron, whereas kits tend to be molded with the nozzle open. The mix-up is one of the most commonly overlooked discrepancies on F-16 models.
The part is hollow and thin-walled, so when cutting it from the casting block proceed slowly with a sharp blade and never press against the wall of the nozzle. Keep sanding to a minimum and concentrate it only on the mating surface to the fuselage. After washing off the mold release agent and drying, apply a primer. It is bonded with super glue applied with the tip of a wire around the circumference of the mating surface, not inside the nozzle. Painting is the more interesting half of the work on a nozzle: a base in a metallic shade, a darker tone inside, and thin casts of heat discoloration on the outer petals. It pays to work with very thinned paint and in several coats, because in 1:144 the line between an effect and overpainting is very thin.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The model of the aircraft, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
