1:144 AN/ALQ 131 2 band (shallow version)

A jamming pod in 1:144 scale

The AN/ALQ-131 electronic warfare pod, the shallow variant with two bands, as an accessory for models of combat aircraft in 1:144 scale. In a small scale it is precisely the equipment under the fuselage and under the wings that decides credibility: two otherwise identical models differ mainly in what they have hung on them.

The shallow and the deep variant

The pod was made in several versions that differ in the depth of the body and the number of bands occupied. This item is the shallow two-band version; the manufacturer also makes a counterpart with a deep body and three bands. The difference is clearly visible on a model from the side, so it pays to check against a photograph of the real subject which variant a particular machine carried. The number of pieces in the package is given in the manufacturer's description.

Working with the part

• wash and degrease the part before painting
• cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little from the part and sand the remainder
• try the seating on the station dry, as a small deviation is visible at this scale
• apply the paint in thin coats, as a heavy coat suppresses the shape of the body
• the suitable glue and the preparation procedure are given in the manufacturer's instructions

Who it is for

For builders of modern combat aircraft in 1:144 scale who want stores matching a particular task and period, and for completing kits whose equipment does not include the pod. The kit of the aircraft, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
