A plastic kit of the Soviet biplane Polikarpov Po-2 in 1:72 scale. The name ties it to machines from the period of the Korean War.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Polikarpov Po-2 is a single-engine biplane of mixed wooden and fabric construction with a fixed undercarriage and dual controls in two open cockpits. It came about at the end of the 1920s as a trainer and was built in enormous numbers. It is powered by a five-cylinder air-cooled radial engine of low output. The aircraft became famous for carrying far more tasks than it had been designed for: it served for liaison, for evacuating the wounded, for agricultural work and for night harassment raids. It was in this last role that it also appeared in the Korean War, which the name of the item refers to. It flew low and slow and fast jets had difficulty catching it.
It is a kit in the small 1:72 scale, so a finished model takes up little room in a display case. A biplane with interplane struts and wire bracing is work that rewards patience, but a beginner has to reckon with the fact that aligning the wings calls for a steady hand and a firm surface.
Clean up the parts before assembly and try them dry, above all the struts between the wings. Glue them with a cement intended for plastic models and seat the upper wing only once the struts of the lower one have dried, otherwise the whole assembly will twist. The wire bracing can be added with a thin fishing line or with elastic rigging thread. Apply the paint in thin coats so that the fine surface with the ribbing of the fabric-covered wing stays visible.
The kit of the model is supplied. Paints, glue and tools are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
