A collector bust cast in resin, 1:10 scale. The building part is short: it is a matter of seating the casting and cleaning it up, and the whole point of the piece is in the painting. Resin carries even shallow modeling out of the mold, so fine transitions stay legible on the surface and can be drawn out with thin coats of paint. For a modeler who wants to improve at working with skin tones, this format is an ideal exercise and at the same time a finished cabinet piece.
Wash the parts in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent and let them dry completely; the release layer from the mold is the main reason why paint on resin sometimes rubs away. Cut the casting blocks off, never snap them; level the rest with fine abrasive paper. Parting lines tend to be noticeable along the outline, so go over them under side lighting to make sure you miss none. Fill any seam between the parts with modeling filler, sand it over once dry and check that the transition does not show. Glue the joints with cyanoacrylate glue and sand wet with respiratory protection.
The basis is a thin primer, which evens the surface out and reveals the places where more sanding is needed. Build the skin from a mid tone both up and down, always with heavily thinned paint and in many coats: one thick coat swamps the detail, ten thin ones bring it out. Shadows belong in the recesses and under the volumes, highlights on the surfaces that would catch light from above. Deal with the eyes in the order of white, iris, outline, and above all check the symmetry. A wash into the folds and a dry brush along the edges bring the textiles to life, and keep the final weathering restrained, so that it does not overpower the face. Leave mounting it on the base until the very end.
The bust is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Paints, primer and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
