The set

PW1127G engines in 1:144 scale for the Airbus A320 model from Zvezda. It is a turbofan engine with a strikingly large intake diameter, so the nacelle makes up a large part of the aircraft's silhouette from the front and its shape decides whether a model looks like the right version.

Why change the engines

Engine nacelles in kits are molded in two halves and the intake lip therefore has to have a certain wall thickness. An accessory set makes it possible to have a thin-walled and evenly circular intake. Besides that it comes in useful when you are converting a model to an engine variant the kit does not include as standard.

Building and painting tips

The parts are not polystyrene, so they are glued with cyanoacrylate glue. Cut off surplus material with a sharp blade a short distance from the part and sand the remainder, on a circular intake lip in small steps and with the shape checked against the light as you go. Wash and degrease the parts before painting, because otherwise the paint will not hold on a smooth surface.

• try the fit on the pylon dry, so that the engine hangs at the right angle
• match the two engines to each other, because a difference in their angle shows on a finished model
• paint the inside of the nacelle and the fan blades before you close the nacelle
