An injection-molded plastic motorcycle kit from the Japanese manufacturer Tamiya, from its range of 1:12 models, represents the Italian superbike Ducati 1199 Panigale S. The model faithfully carries over both the distinctive look and the technical layout of the machine. The side panels of the fairing are attached with tiny screws, so they can be taken off even after assembly to reveal the finely rendered engine. Rubber tires, metal springs for the shock absorbers and a stand are usually included in the package.
The Ducati 1199 Panigale was introduced in 2011 and brought an unconventional monocoque structure instead of the classic tubular trellis frame. The liquid-cooled L-Twin two-cylinder of roughly 1198 cc gave about 195 horsepower. The engine is load-bearing and is connected directly to the intake system, the swingarm and the rear frame.
Glue the parts with liquid cement for plastic, spray the fairing over a primer and polish the gloss finish before the decals go on. The frame, the engine and the exhaust come to life with metallic shades and a wash, and chrome surfaces are picked out with metallic colors. Tighten the tiny screws gently so that the plastic does not crack.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
