A model of the British battlecruiser HMS Indomitable in the small ship scale of 1:1200. It suits a display case in which dozens of vessels stand side by side in a uniform ratio.
Responsibility details are not available.
HMS Indomitable was a British battlecruiser from the beginning of the twentieth century. Battlecruisers came into being as ships with heavy gun armament close to that of battleships which, however, in exchange for higher speed carried weaker armor. The Indomitable served in the Royal Navy in the period of the First World War.
The ratio 1:1200 belongs among the small ship scales. The model fits in the palm of the hand and its strength lies not in rivets but in the silhouette: in the ratio of the length and the beam of the hull, in the arrangement of the gun turrets and in the division of the superstructures. That is exactly why whole forces are built in this scale, in which dozens of ships stand side by side and the difference in their sizes is plain at first glance.
Count on small parts. They are worked with using tweezers over a surface with a raised edge so that nothing gets lost. Wash and degrease the surface before painting, otherwise the coat will hold poorly. Apply the paint in thin layers, best with an airbrush; a heavy layer would flood the fine edges of the superstructures in this scale. The result is then helped by a darker shade in the recesses and fine drybrushing of the edges.
It will be reached for by collectors of ship silhouettes and by modelers who want a comparison of different vessels in a uniform ratio in one display case. Paints, glue and thinners are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
